We're at the third week of Advent, Gaudete Sunday has passed and so has the mid-point of the advent season. Christmas is right around the corner and things are going by very fast. Heres a brief list of upcoming things:

Advent has begun and there are several things happening here at St. Matthews:

Friday, December 4 - St Matthews Catholic School is hosting their Winter Formal Dance

Poinsettias are on sale, contact Madelyn in the Church office if you would like to donate a Poinsettia for the Altar, Cost is $15

The Advent Bible Study has just begun it is held Tuesday morning at 9am, Contact the Church office if you are interested in participating. (child care is also available during the bible study)

Breakfast with Santa Tickets go on sale this weekend after all masses. Cost is $4.50 for adults and $3.50 for children.

Parish News - October 29, 2009

The annual parish bazaar has come and gone and we would like to thank all those who spent countless hours putting on our bazaar. We would also like to thank all of you who attended the bazaar that helped make it wonderful event.

Ministry Fair weekend is this weekend after all masses in the parish hall. Please sign up for any ministry you wish to be apart of.

Note: You do not need to sign up for ministries you already participate in if you plan on continuing with that ministry. For example, if you are currently a lector and you wish to continue being one you do not need to sign up with the lectors again.

October is a happening month for us here at St Matthews. Religious Ed and RCIA classes have already begun. Preparation classes for First Reconciliation and Confirmation are now starting. The annual parish Bazaar is just around the corner. Here's a list of some upcoming events

Religious Ed Classes begin this Wednesday, September 16
Classes begin this Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30pm. You still have time to register your children for classes. Note: classtime has been extended to 7:40pm. If you have any questions please contact us at the office 388-1207.

Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction Saturday, September 19
Be sure to pick up your tickets for the spaghetti dinner after mass this weekend. The spaghetti dinner will be next Saturday, September 19 in the Parish Hall. Tickets will be a dollar more if you purchase them at the door. Save money and pick up your tickets this weekend after mass.

Don't forget about our Silent Auction either! Some of the items to be auctioned include:

Publix gift certificates, Restaurant Gift Certificates, store gift cards
Gift Baskets
Lladro collectibles
Service packages including babysitting, yardwork, etc.

Parish Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction
The St Matthew's Sr. Youth is hosting a Spaghetti dinner and silent auction on Saturday, Sept. 19. The dinners include: Spaghetti with homemade meatballs, salad, garlic bread, and drink. Wine and dessert will also be available for purchase. Take out/drive through will be available. A silent auction will be held during the dinner as well.

Tickets for the dinner will be on sale after all masses on the following weekends: Aug 29 & 30, Sept 5 & 6, Sept 12 & 13. Adult tickets are $6.50 and Children are $4.50. Contact the formation office if you have any questions.

COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK DINNER - June 20th
Join us following the 5:30PM Saturday Mass for our annual International dinner. All are invited to join us in the parish hall for this festive event sponsored by St. Matthews Council of Catholic Women. Beverages, bread, & paper products will be provided. Bring your favorite ethnic dish to share, sign-up book is in the back of the church. Don’t cook? Join us anyway for this fun filled evening of food, fun, fellowship & entertainment.

Last week of May & the last week of school
The end of May is drawing near and so is the end of the school year. Kindergarten graduation is Tuesday, May 26 at 10am. The 8th grade graduation will be Tuesday, May 26 at 7pm.

Friday, May 29 is the last day of school with noon dismissal, no extended day and no backpacks.

Summer Camp & Vacation Bible School
Come to the School office to get your form for Summer Camp, and be sure to visit the gathering area in church to get your form for Vacation Bible school!

Religious Education News
Our last class for the year was yesterday, Wednesday, May 13. We wish everyone a very happy and safe summer and an enormous thank you to all the catechist volunteers this year. We couldn't have done any of this without you all!

We know that classes just ended but be sure to sign up your child for Vacation Bible School!

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is back this year! Join us for a romp through the swamp with this year's theme: Crocodile Dock. VBS will be the week of June 8 - 12.

Cost is $35 per child and registration forms are available on our website and in the gathering area of the church. Registration is for those entering Pre-K 4 - 5th grade. If you have any questions please contact the Formation Office: 388-1207

Parish Spaghetti Dinner
Just a reminder that our Parish Spaghetti Dinner is Saturday at 6:30pm. Join us for mass at 5:30pm and for food and fellowship afterwards in the parish hall.

Car Wash: sponsored by St Matthew's Sr Youth
The Sr. Youth will be hosting a Car wash this Sunday after the 8:30 and 10:30am masses. All proceeds support our Sr Youth with cost of conferences, retreats and Service projects.

Exposition
As many of you know Friday afternoon, from 3:30pm till 7pm, is our time for Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. However the location for Exposition has moved from the Church to the Chapel. The Chapel is located in the old Convent, right next door to the Gym.

Living Stations

We are all very excited about our upcoming Living Stations. The Sr. Youth have been rehearsing for weeks to prepare for their presentation of the Way of the Cross. The Living Stations has been a tradition in our parish for several years. Each year we invite the parish, other churches and our surrounding community to come and experience the Passion of our Lord.

Join us this Friday, April 3 for Living Stations at 7:30pm. The CCW is also hosting a soup dinner at 5:30pm in the hall. Contact the Church office if you have any questions. 904-388-8698
